The application process

The application process has begun, it is in two stages. Materials can be sent until November 30, 2024.

1st round (online application)

Requirements:   

• University degree (or equivalent) in voice or piano
• Not older than 29 years on September 1, 2025

Materials to be submitted:

For singers:

1. an opera aria
2. an operetta aria
3. an aria/lied/song of your own choice

At least one submission must be in the German language

For pianists:

1. one solo piece (max. 10 minutes)
2. an aria by W. A. Mozart with a singer
3. one aria/lied in the German language, self-accompanied and sung

Application deadline: November 30, 2024

Invitation for the final round in Munich will be made known at the beginning of January 2025.

2nd round (at the Staatstheater am Gärtnerplatz)

Date: February 03/04/05, 2025

Singers:

A total of 5 pieces: including 3 arias from different periods, one which should be from an operetta. The choice of the 2 additional arias/lieder/songs is up to the applicant, songs from musicals are warmly welcome. Pieces presented in the online application may be presented again.

Pianist:

1. Overture from "Die Fledermaus" by Johann Strauss (possibly with conductor)
2. from "Die Zauberflöte" by W.A. Mozart, No. 5 Quintet. Candidates will be asked to play and sing (or mark) any of the vocal parts at the same time
3. the candidates will be asked to prepare two arias. In the audition, the pianists will be asked to perform and coach these arias with ensemble members from Gärtnerplatztheater. The works will be announced mid-January
4. sight-reading

Successful candidates will be offered a two-year training contract based on the starting salary of a soloist according to NV Bühne.
