About the Opera Studio
OPERA STUDIO (Patronage: HRH Duke Franz of Bavaria) at STAATSTHEATER AM GÄRTNERPLATZ, with focus on Spieloper and operetta, opening in season 2023/2024
Gärtnerplatztheater was opened in Munich in 1865 and soon became a house with a special reputation for operetta. Since 2012, Director Josef E. Köpplinger has been at the helm of the theater and, together with his team, Gärtnerplatztheater has distinguished itself as a leading European opera house. In addition to numerous world premieres in all genres, a strong revitalizing profile has been given to bel canto and Spieloper as well as operetta.
Internationally singular is the special focus on Spieloper and operetta, giving the Opera Studio am Gärtnerplatztheater a distinguishing characteristic. Singers with a tertiary qualification (or equivalent) in singing are invited to apply. Over two years, as preparation for their stage careers, four singers can expect training in voice, role creation, interpretation, language, and movement in all genres of the theater.
In addition to 4 singers, the studio also has a position for one pianist, who will also undergo an audition process. The successful pianist will be supported and developed within the framework of the program.
Studio members await an intensive mentoring-program with guidance from a highly qualified team - including masterclasses with well-known artistic personalities. They will take on performances in small and medium-sized roles, together with the solo-ensemble of Staatstheater am Gärtnerplatz.
Our goal after two years is to send these young singers and pianists far beyond Bavaria into the world of musical theater.
