The orchestra of Staatstheater am Gärtnerplatz is one of Munich’s important orchestras. According to the profile of Gärtnerplatztheater, in order to show musical theatre in all its diversity, the orchestra’s repertory ranges from baroque to contemporary composition and with opera, operetta, musicals and ballet covers all of the genres of musical theatre. The orchestra, which comprises 77 musicians and was raised to the rank of an A orchestra in 2003, can additionally also be regularly experienced in concerts as well as concertante performances. In addition, the musicians have since 2000 designed a chamber music series. Guest performances have taken the orchestra to other German cities as well as to foreign countries like Mexico and China.
The orchestra of Staatstheater am Gärtnerplatz has ever since it was founded been characterised by collaboration with renowned conductors and musical personalities. Thus, among others, composers like Carl Millöcker and Franz Lehár conducted their own works here. Wolfgang Rennert, Franz Allers, David Stahl, Marco Comin and Anthony Bramall were among the principal conductors. Since the 2023/2024 season, Rubén Dubrovsky has conducted the orchestra of Staatstheater am Gärtnerplatz.
